Methamphetamine overdose: trends & harm reduction

Drug overdoses are a significant public health concern in Australia and internationally. This Cracks in the Ice webinar covers:  

  • What overdose (toxicity) from and other amphetamine-type looks like
  • Identify what to do if overdose occurs
  • Describe trends in overdose and other harms from methamphetamine and other amphetamine-type stimulants
  • Explore possible reasons why these harms are increasing
  • Explore broader interventions to reduce risk

This 1-hour free webinar was held on Wednesday 17th September 2025 (12pm-1pm AEST). Following the presentation, there was a Q&A session along with questions from webinar attendees. This webinar will be relevant for health workers, researchers, people who use methamphetamine, family and community members.

This webinar was presented by A/Prof Amy Peacock and Emeritus Professor Shane Darke.

Amy Peacock is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre. She is Program Lead for Drug Trends, Australia’s national illicit drug monitoring system. Emeritus Professor Shane Darke has worked in the field of illicit drug research at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre since 1988. He is a leading world expert on the morbidity and mortality associated with illicit drug use.
